Gemma Tinney and Annapurna
“She was so awesome I couldn’t ask for a better ride” says Gemma Tinney of John and Jane Pittard’s Annapurna who blitzed around the Horseland CCI2* course to stay in the lead today. The mare goes into the show jumping of the CCI2* in Adelaide for a second time; in 2013, ridden by Stuart Tinney Annapurna finished second, and now Gemma has her fingers crossed to go one better
Katja Weimann and BP Escapade
Two time penalties kept them on top with a score of 42.80 but Katja Weimann, now in second place riding BP Escapade, is hot on their heels with a score of 44.60 thanks to a double clear round. Katja replaced Jess Rae and Rascal who were one of five combinations to have a problem at the bogey fence of the class, Fence 9
Shenae Lowings and Venture Sky High
Young Shenae Lowings had no such problems and maintained her third place on Venture Sky High with just 1.6 time penalties and a current score of 44.60
“I knew it was going to be a bit of a push to make the time but I still had some horse at the end so hopefully he’ll jump well tomorrow”
Andrew Barnett and Bradgate Park Dante
Andrew Barnett riding Bradgate Park Dante was the first combination on course this morning and they proved that the time was very achievable, coming home with a double clear round to move them up one place into fourth while Simon Tainsh and Emma Mason both incurred a small number of time penalties for fifth and sixth places
“He’s always been just a little fighter” says Andrew of his young chestnut horse that is an unusual breeding cross of Appoloosa and warmblood “About the seven minute marker he just died a bit so I gave him a kick and away he went again”
Simon Tainsh and Vengeance
Simon Tainsh picked up 0.8 time penalties on Vengeance but blames it totally on the jockey’s sat nav (or lack of) as he headed down part of the 4* track at one point and had to double back
Emma Mason and Currabeha
Emma Mason rounded out the top six riding Currabeha, or ‘Angry Anderson’ as he is called at home. The vets unsuccessfully tried to take his temperature in the cool down area as the off the track gelding was not having a bar of it but he certainly looked very perky despite having run around the cross country!
“We love him but he’s got his quirks” admits Emma
