Molly and La Muso practise their 2* test at Tonimbuk
18 year old Molly Barry had a nice dilemma to deal with –which of her two 2* horses should she take to compete at her first ever Australian International 3 Day Event? In the end she decided on the off the track thoroughbred eight year old chestnut gelding La Muso, winner of the CCI1* Junior class at Melbourne International 3 Day Event over her homebred Just Joshen when La Muso ‘just ate up the 2* course at Werribee’ recently
Molly has had a busy preparation for the big event as she has also had her HSC exams to contend with but, with just her favourite subject Physics to complete when we spoke to her at the Tonimbuk Hickstead, she was feeling quite relaxed
“Riding actually really helps me study” she explained “It clears my head and I go back to my books much more able to revise”
Talking of books, we were delighted to find that our book An Eventful – Life Stories of Eventing Champions was one of Molly’s motivators as a 13 year old rider
“I bought a copy of the book at Melbourne 3 Day Event when it was launched by all the riders in 2010 and as soon as I read it, I knew I wanted to be like them. This was what I wanted to do in life”
Now Molly will be competing at the same event as the five Olympic riders in the book with Megan Jones, Shane Rose, Stuart Tinney, Wendy Schaeffer and Sonja Johnson all rolling into Adelaide next week to compete. They have been there many times before but for Molly, it will be her first taste of competing at the biggest event in Australia ..............
