Issy Houghton and Mohito prepare for their Squad Camp at Werribee
The Victorian Squads, made up of the Horseland Elite, Prydes Stars of the Future and Equissage Young Riders, are selected at the start of each calendar year. At the most recent weekend in September thirty two riders gathered at Werribee to hone their skills with coaches Jamie and Sue Coman, Will Enzinger, Emily Anker, Catherine Davies, Scarlett Blakely and Amanda Ross (some of our coaches are of course also riders and managed to slip in a few lessons in-between coaching).
For the Equissage Young Riders it was not just a matter of dressage, cross country and showjumping on their horses but also a personal fitness session with Amanda Ross on the lawn in Lycra! There was an informative talk from Prydes' David Owen about horse nutrition and the different feeds available.
With the first comp of the season, Friends of Werribee, behind us the focus is on Avenal at Oaklands this weekend. They received huge entries and still have a waiting list! Many of the Squad are working towards Adelaide at the end of November so there should be a strong contingent heading west. Out next squad will be at Wandin Park at the end of September.
