This time next week we will know who have been crowned as the 2024 Scottish Grassroots Champions at the Defender Blair Castle International Horse Trials.

The beautiful Blair Atholl Estate in the Scottish Highlands will be welcoming competitors for one last time, with the last-ever Defender Blair Castle International Horse Trials taking place from 21st – 25th August 2024.

Entries for the 2024 FEI Defender Blair Castle International Horse Trials are looking to top 400 horse and rider combinations (more about that coming soon in our Preview of the International classes early next week) but the eventing action at Blair Castle will kick off with the Inverness Paving Scottish Grassroots Championships and national classes.

More than 300 combinations will run in these classes on Wednesday 21st and Thursday 22nd August, giving grassroots competitors their chance to be part of the biggest equestrian event in Scotland and run over these glorious cross country courses. The qualified competitors in the Scottish Championships, run at BE100 and BE90 levels, will do their dressage on Wednesday followed by cross country and showjumping on Thursday with the final phase showjumping being run in reverse order, which will no doubt heighten the drama and add to the ‘big-event’ feeling!

The non-Championship BE100 and BE90 classes complete all three phases on Wednesday.

As always, this big event is not just a celebration of everything equestrian, with FEI and Grassroots competition plus many non-eventing classes and shows, but there is also delicious food and drink, a fabulous shopping village and this year will be extra special as the last ever Defender Blair Castle International Horse Trials.
