Courtney Stubberfield - 2017 Australian Young Rider Champion

      Courtney Stubberfield and Wallawest Kaos

20 year old Courtney Stubberfield and her Australian Stockhorse Wallawest Kaos produced the best show jumping performance in the Horseland CCI2* to win the 2017 Bates Australian Young Rider Championship at the Mitsubishi Motors Australian International 3 Day Event

The 10 year old Wallawest Kaos was bred by Courtney’s family so the pair has a special bond, particularly as Kaos was just six months old when his mother died of colic. Courtney’s mum Tracey was determined to save the young horse and hand reared him then Courtney took him over once he was broken in

Wallawest Kaos went to boarding school with Courtney and now that she has left school, he is based with her at Davidson Equestrian where Courtney works with Mattea and Shane Davidson

In 10th place after the dressage in Adelaide, they added 28.4 time penalties on cross country and, despite Courtney saying that show jumping is Kaos’ weakest phase, the pair had the best show jumping result of all competitors in the CCI2*with a clear jumping round and just one time penalty

They finished in eighth place overall in the Horseland CCI2* and took the 2017 Bates Australian Young Rider Championship ahead of Rebecca McCrae and Richard Knight, who finished ninth and tenth overall
