Sam Jeffree and Jaybee Calypso
20 year old Sam Jeffree will achieve a long-held ambition this week when he competes at his first ever event in the heart of Adelaide. Sam and his 16 year old Jaybee Calypso (ridden many years ago by an Adelaide 4* winner, Chris Burton) are competing in the CCI2* and the Young Rider class of the Mitsubishi Motors International 3 Day Event, after a strong year. They started with a win when Sam in the CIC1* class at Tonimbuk Horse Trials, against a strong field of 40 competitors, where Sam was also the winner of the Noble Spirit Young Rider Award. This was followed up soon after with second place in the 2* at Wandin Park.
Not only is it Sam's first competition in Adelaide but it is his first experience of a 4* event and he cannot wait! We caught up with him at Tooradin a couple of weeks prior to the big event and we are pleased to report that the lead-up went well and that Team Jeffree is on site in Adelaide!
"We are here! Strange putting Calypso into his stable in parkland right in the middle of Adelaide city! He has travelled well and had a ride and stretch this evening. Pretty sure he thinks the grand stand and big screen are here just for him!" says Sam on his Facebook page
