Sam Jeffree and Jaybee Calypso
An Eventful Life is filming all competitors on cross country at the
Mitsubishi Motors Australian International 3 Day Event - find out more here
Sam Jeffree not only leads the Young Rider section of the CCI2* at the Mitsubishi Motors Australian International 3 Day Event but also leads the entire class after cross country this morning with a score of 33.10
Sam was the first rider home with a double clear round on Jaybee Calypso, moving him up from sixth after the dressage and when the overnight leader Rachael Lee picked up 20 penalties, second placed Cindy Lyall retired on GI Joe and fourth placed Claire Mc Dermott was eliminated, the door was wide open for the rest of the close placed top 2* competitors
There was a hold on course for fence repairs towards the end of the class but it didn’t seem to bother the very cool Emma Mason on Aramatai Fox as the quietly waited for the off, with Emma practising a few flying changes before she entered the Start Box. The eight year old chestnut mare produced a great round but they were very slightly down on the clock, adding just 1.6 time penalties to move from fifth into second place on 34.40

Shane Rose and his mare Easy Turn emulated Sam’s round, coming home clear and under time for third place on his dressage score of 34.90 and he was really pleased with the inexperienced six year old mare.
“She’s very spooky and still very green” said Shane “But she’s got a great jump and she’s really adjustable in the mouth. She just needs to get more experience and learn to look for the way out of combinations – at most of the combinations I had to show her exactly where to go and what to do. But she galloped really well, she got a little tired towards the end but it’s only her first long format 2* and she didn’t lose any time towards the end even when she began to get a little tired so I’m really pleased with her”

Shane told us more about Easy Turn and the leader of the CIC3*, Ultimate Velocity, in an interview coming up
It will be an interesting evening in the Rose household with Shane’s wife Niki also coming home double clear on Glenorchy South Park to be just 0.20 penalties behind Shane heading into tomorrow’s show jumping while Amanda Ross moved down slightly from third into fifth with 3.6 time penalties
Another Young Rider, local rider Steph Hann on board True Celebre rounds out the top six with another impressive double clear to jump all the way from 18th place after dressage. There is not a rail in it between the top six riders and it will be an exciting finish to the CCI2* and Young Rider Championship tomorrow
Of the 47 competitors that set out on cross country, 16 were eliminated or retired on cross country with Fences 15 and 19 being the most influential on course
