Madeline Wilson and I'm Bruce at full stretch
It was all change on the leader board on Saturday at the Sydney International Horse Trials
As the early morning fog lifted the competitors made their way to tackle the cross country but one who walked home on the sunny course was the overnight leader of the Horseware CCI3*, Olympian Megan Jones and Kirby Park Impress. The pair retired on course, as did Molly Barry on La Muso and Sarah Ray on King Vassie, with just two combinations coming home without jumping penalties.
Queensland’s Madeline Wilson moved into the lead with 21.6 time penalties on I’m Bruce (74.40) with Tania Harding on Jirrima Yorkshire in second (76.50) and Soigne Jackson, producing the fastest ride of the day but picking up 20 penalties, in third (83.60)
The overnight leader of the CIC3* also dropped out of contention with Tim Boland on GV Billy Elliott moving down to 11th place with a stop and time penalties. Three ladies now battle it out at the top with Katie Taliana on Trevalgar II leading (61.90), New Zealand’s Ginny Thompson on Star Nouveau in second (63) and Hazel Shannon on Clifford, who produced a fast and clear round, in third (64.10)
With less than a pole between the top two in both classes, it’s going to be a tight finish on Sunday!
