Sam Jeffree and Koyuna Tactician
An Eventful Life is filming all competitors on cross country at
Bowral Kubota Festival of Eventing at Wallaby Hill
23 combinations will contest this week’s CCI4*-S at the Bowral Kubota Festival of Eventing at Wallaby Hill
With Lakes & Craters International Horse Trials in Victoria, scheduled to take place from 8th – 11th December, cancelled as another casualty of the wet ground conditions that have plagued Eastern Australia in 2022, this weekend’s event at Wallaby Hill in Robertson, NSW will bring to a close a difficult season of eventing
Normally Wallaby Hill hosts long format classes but this year the newly named Bowral Kubota Festival of Eventing is running just short format international classes from 2* to 4*
As at the Queensland International Three Day Event in October, Andrew Cooper tops and tails the CCI4*-S draw with his four horses – Sharvalley Thunder, Pepper Jack, Omega Star and Hey Arnold – while the CCI4*-S winners at QI3DE, Andrew Barnett and Go Tosca, are not only in the mix but likely to be very competitive here
The CCI4*-L winners at QI3DE, Sophie Fox and her off the track thoroughbred Mr Pig, are one of the several Victorian combinations to make the journey to the NSW Southern Highlands this week, along with another thoroughbred cross country machine, Sophia Hill’s Humble Glory. These two ladies may not be up there after the dressage but just watch them go on Wallaby Hill’s beautiful cross country course
Another Victorian visitor, Sam Jeffree has the big grey warmblood Koyuna Tactician in the 4*-S plus three very competitive up and coming stars in the CCI3*-S. Koyuna Tactician was the winner of the 3*-S at Tonimbuk early this year and took second place at his first 4* start at Werribee in September, a class won by Kirilee Hosier riding AEA Flynn who will also be competing here
It’s rare to see a 4* entry list in Australia without Shane Rose on the start list but the Bimbadeen Park team will be represented by Shane’s wife Niki on board Glenorchy South Park who has been busy jumping at Six-Bar competitions (so the final phase should prove no problem this weekend)
Glenorchy South Park and Heath Ryan’s Bronze Boy R are likely to be in competitive positions after the dressage on Friday morning, with Andrew Cooper riding Sharvalley Thunder the first to head down the centre line in front of international judges Helen Christie (NZL) and Tomio Ogawa (JPN) at 8:30am
We’ll also be keeping an eye on the CCI3*-S and CCI2*-S, which sees two of the Australian World Championship team riders, Hazel Shannon on Willingapark Chelsea and Shenae Lowings on Bold Cointreau, competing – certainly two to watch!
