Canberra International Horse Trials

Stuart Tinney and Celebration at their first 1* start

After some great success recently in the UK, Shane Rose flew back to Sydney to be re-united with his young upand coming horse Swiper to win the National Capital Horse Trials Association CIC3* in Canberra on the weekend.

Shane rode the eight year old warmblood/TB by Contenda to victory at his first 3* start ahead of Deon Stokes who is well known for his prowess in the dressage arena and started with a good lead over Shane in the first phase. Deon and his horse Crime Time scored 41.70 to Shane and Swiper’s 52.50 and both jumped clear in the show jumping but Deon added six time penalties, closing the gap.

The cross country phase sealed the deal for Shane, skipping around with just 1.2 time penalties to win on a final score of 53.70 while Deon unfortunately picked up 20 jumping penalties and 19.2 time, still holding onto second place with a score of 86.90

Shane’s feet were not on the ground for long as he now heads back to Europe to take part in the next leg of the FEI Nations Cup series at party central, Boekelo in Holland.

Young Thea Horsley riding Kelecyn Supernatural won the CIC2* and Stuart Tinney would have been celebrating in the CIC2* on Elizabeth Brinton’s Celebration, winning at just his second 1* start
