Congratulations to all the winners of the EvA80 and EvA95 classes at the Hanson Tonimbuk International Horse Trials but especially to Delwyn (Del) Ogilvy and Honourdale, winners of the Victorian Dressage Stables EvA80B class
In 2016 the well-known eventing coach, who was the first reserve for the Australian Eventing team at the Barcelona Olympic Games, won the EvA95 at Tonimbuk on board Precious Dreams but hasn’t competed at the event since then. Like many, Del has spent much of the past two years in lockdown in Victoria, but also had other problems to deal with as she battled cancer
But 10 months after her breast cancer diagnosis, Del finished her last treatment in early March. She has been through two surgical procedures, six months of chemotherapy and 15 radiation treatments but this didn’t hold her back from bringing on the young horse Honourdale
“He was one of the things that kept me motivated during the treatment” says Del “Some days, I didn’t have the energy to ride, but it cheered me up just to go down to his stable, give him a pat and a carrot and think about what I had to look forward to”
Competing at her local event at Tonimbuk was one of those things and, after finishing fourth at their first ever competition at the EA Horse Trials in February, they came out and won at Tonimbuk
Showing that she hasn’t lost any of her touch, Del started in second place after their (very wet!) dressage and then added nothing to their score in the show jumping and cross country to win on a score of 25.6. She certainly hasn’t lost any of her style on cross country either, as you can see from their winning cross country video ride
Great job Del and here’s to many more wins!
