It’s time to travel north in Australia and head up to NSW for the Denman Horse Trials in the Upper Hunter Region, about 250 kilometres north of Sydney (thankfully, a good drive north as Sydney is having a few problems with Covid-19 at the moment)
Denman was a very popular event last year, as the very first event to kick off the season in Australia after many cancellations, and it is proving so again this year, despite some riders and helpers from the Greater Sydney area, currently a ‘red zone’ unable to attend
The event, headed by Gordon Bishop and his fabulous committee, is running CNC1*-S down to EvA45 classes and some of the riders we would have seen at the cancelled Melbourne International 3 Day Event (another casualty of Covid) will be here, although not on their top horses. But this gives a great chance to see the horses that could be the stars of the future.
Craig Barrett was last year’s winner of the CCN1* on Eligo but it is Mrs Barrett that will be one of the hot contenders for the class this year. Australian representative and well-known coach Prue is riding Sandhills Stella in the CCN1* and Sandhills Briar in the EvA95
Andrew Barnett, Jess Somerfield and young Alex Seppelt on Fairview Metallica, who won the CCN1* at Berrima (1), are all ones to watch in CCN1* as are Heath Ryan, Emma Bishop and Christine Bates in the EvA95
Check back each day over the weekend as we follow the action from Denman …..
