In past years Equestrian In The Park in Perth has attracted international riders such as Sir Mark Todd, Harry Meade, William Fox-Pitt and Sam Griffiths to compete and enjoy all that Perth, Australia has to offer (sunshine, fabulous wines, horsey entertainment, lots of fun ….. what’s not to enjoy?)
Another pandemic year has meant that, not only could overseas visitors not get there but even riders from other States were unable to cross the border, but that didn’t stop Western Australians having another great day out at Equestrian In The Park while the rest of us look on jealously
Held on Saturday November 27th, the high adrenaline equestrian action got underway alongside the social get together at Burswood Park in Perth. The two classes of Arena style eventing – the Rockingham Ram Grand Prix and the Riviera WA Diamond Class, that combine show jumping and cross country efforts without the boring dressage bit – were won by Kate Joyce riding The Diamond Thief and Tegan Cook riding Moet, while Caitlin Bolger and Caprino took the West Coast Vets Classic Showjumping class for the purists
The well-named 12-year-old The Diamond Thief, who normally events at 3* level with Kate, previously won this class for Sir Mark Todd in 2018 and this year he netted Kate a cool $20,000 cash prize for winning the Rockingham Ram Grand Prix while Tegan didn’t go away empty handed either, driving away with a Riviera WA Horse Float
