The 2019 Lynton Horse programme read “Welcome to the 2019 NSW State Eventing Championships hosted by Lynton Horse Trials. It is 41 years since the first event was held at Lynton and our 16th international event. Unfortunately, this will be the last event”
The committee for these horse trials, held at Lynton Estate owned by Alan Cardy and the adjoining property Braemar House, owned by Anna Poidevin near Goulburn, NSW, Australia, has been headed by Neil and Geordie Kennedy for 41 and 31 years respectively but recent changes to the eventing calendar that ‘decimated our entries’ and difficulties finding someone local to the event to take over its running brought the event to its swansong on 5th and 6th October 2019
Many Olympians have ridden around this course and, just prior to the final presentation at Lynton, two of them presented Neil and Geordie with a small token of the riders’ appreciation for their past work.
Dual Olympic medallist Shane Rose and Heath Ryan (a member of the Australian Dressage Team for the Beijing Olympic Games and 3-times Assistant Coach for the Australian Olympic Eventing team) have many memories of this event, which has run come sun or snow, and they recalled some of those times, along with rider and past Sydney 3DE Event Director, Rose Read
Dr Vince Roche, who was not only the 3* and 4* course designer here this year but has also been Technical Delegate and Medical Practitioner, adds to the great Aussie humour in farewelling Neil and Geordie
