Hazel Shannon and Clifford gallop to a win at Goulburn
In 2016 Hazel Shannon won the CIC3* at Tamworth and Lynton Horse Trials in the lead up to the Adelaide, where they won the CCI4*
This year Hazel is on track for the Mitsubishi Motors Australian International 3 Day Event in November, having again won the CIC3*at Tamworth in August and today taking the CIC3* at Lynton in NSW.
Hazel and Clifford were third after the dressage with a score of 45.10 and they added nothing to that today with a clear round in the show jumping and double clear on the rolling terrain of the Lynton Estate near Goulburn. It has been very dry in these parts recently but course designer and event organiser Neil Kennedy has done his utmost to prepare the ground, knowing that, as always, this event is an important lead up event to Adelaide and use of the Aerovator, borrowed from Wallaby Hill, had been put to good use
If Victoria’s Andrew Cooper is taking either Darwin Park Echo or Buchanan to Adelaide for the CIC2* he will be pretty happy today, with them finishing in first and third place, sandwiching Mattea Davidson in second place on Kinnordy Gwendolyn. Andrew moved up from fifth after the dressage to take the win on Darwin Park Echo, an 11 year old Australian thoroughbred, when the dressage leader Emma Mason ran into problems on cross country and Megan Jones had some rails in the show jumping
Emma was in the money (well, at least the ribbons) in the CIC1*with third place on Aramatai Fox. It was a close finish with Emma on 45.70, second placed Wendy Schaeffer-Macdonald riding Canterbury Sun Rose (45) and NSW rider Jack Hayden taking the win with a double clear cross country ride on 44.50 riding Monte Argo
Of course there were lots of other classes at this popular event and you can find out the full stories from Lynton in our feature article coming soon .........
