The copious amounts of rain that have fallen in Victoria over winter may have caused a lot of event cancellations but it has been a blessing for Lakes and Craters International which is looking positively lush.
However a few weeks ago it looked as if even this late in the season event may have to be cancelled due to the wet ground in the volcanic area and the new course designer, New Zealand’s John Nicholson was wondering whether his first course here would be jumped
We talked to John today about how things have been coming along
We walked the EvA105 and 1* courses with John and riders after this conversation and the feedback is already very positive but, as John says, we need to see how it rides tomorrow
The venue at the Recreation Area just outside of Camperdown is looking green and the best I have seen it in years. With the backdrop of the lakes and the amazing views from the big pull up the hill, this is quintessential Aussie eventing, complete with hundreds of white cockatoos flying around.
Emily Anker and Glenwood Park Cooper Street
Today the dressage phase completed with Emily Anker leading both the CIC3* on Glenwood Park Cooper Street and the CIC2* on Pop the Question, although it does have to be said that she is the only competitor in the 3* and one of two in the CIC2*!
Wendy Schaeffer has travelled from South Australia to compete Sun Showers in the CCI3* and they lead on 51.10 ahead of another South Australian Jaimie Stitchel on Image Blue Ice but again, sadly there are only two in this class.
Meg Bishop and Sovereign Venture lead the CIC1* while Del Ogilvy and her partner’s daughter, young Sophie Bennett, are dominating the CCN105
Sarah May and Charlie Bean are third in the EvA95B (above) and Madeleine Rumler riding The Toffs Silver Duchess are fourth in the EvA80C (below)
