“I didn’t actually gallop that quickly, but I think that I can probably cover the course more quickly than most because this horse can cut corners, turn with two strides to a fence and changes direction in the air with the lightest of aids” says Megan Jones, CCI4* winner at the 2021 Cardinia Sire Tonimbuk International Horse Trials
South Australia’s Olympian Megan Jones and Kirby Park Impress showed their experience once again on cross country, taking the win with just 1.6 time penalties to finish on 40.70.
They led after the dressage but three rails in the show jumping dropped them into second place behind Victoria’s Sam Jeffree riding Woodmount Lolita
Megan was very happy with the weekend’s performance, saying that Kirby Park Impress ‘had a real engine in the test and her shape was so much better’ and, although the show jumping rails were disappointing, ‘We’re making some changes there and I’ve just got to stick with my programme as she actually felt great.’
Our full video interview with Megan is coming up soon and of course the full cross country video of her winning ride, which will be a treat to watch!
Sam Jeffree and Woodmount Lolita
Sam Jeffree was delighted to be in the lead after dressage and show jumping but, as this was Woodmount Lolita’s first time ever tackling a 4* cross country, he wasn’t pushing for time and came him with 15.2 penalties to finish second on 48.80
“She was a little bit messy at the start of the course” says Sam of last year’s CCI3* winner here “But she settled into a rhythm really well and the second part of the course was amazing. She keeps showing me what great talent she has.”
Kirilee Hosier riding Regal Red Jasper took third place on a score of 61.90.
