30 combinations will start in the 4*-S class at Quirindi Eventing in northern NSW, Australia this weekend with four opting to run as competitors in the CCN4* and the rest of the field participating in the CCI4*-S
Quirindi was originally scheduled to host a National competition next weekend, up to and including 4* but, after the cancellation due to extremely wet weather of the International event meant to run this week at Willinga Park, Quirindi took the international classes on board and moved forward one week. This now gives competitors a good run with a week off before Sydney International 3 Day Event from May 6th – 8th
Thankfully Quirindi, in the heart of the Liverpool Plains, over four hours north and inland of Sydney, has escaped the rain that has battered coastal NSW and Queensland recently, which will give many of the Sydney-siders a chance to dry out for a few days during the competition!
Shane Rose has opted to run his two of the four horses he is competing (Virgil and Easy Turn), in the CCN4* while Be My Daisy and Dreamcatcher will contest the CCI4* and Gemma Tinney is also competing Diabolo in the CCN4*. But there are plenty more contenders in the CCI4* including the recent Tamworth 4* winner, Shenae Lowings on Bold Venture, Heath Ryan on Bronze Boy R, Jess Rae on Rascal, Fifth Avenue and Stakkino (Jess is trying to join Shane in the ‘how many rides can I do in one day’ club) and last year’s Sydney 3DE 4*-L winner, Sam Woods on Cage Fighter
The CCI2* and CCI3* classes also have strong fields – the NSW riders are obviously keen to get out again – and there are national classes running from EvA45 to CCN1*
Shane Rose and Stakkino won the 4* at Quirindi 2021 in wet weather but this weekend, Jess Rae takes over the ride and we're praying for fine conditions!
