Quirindi Eventing International & National Long Format Horse Trials wrapped up on Sunday after a real ‘three days’ of competition

Most of the classes were run as long format, even at 60cm and 80cm levels, giving competitors a unique chance to experience first horse inspections before the start of competition and after cross country

Some of the winners would have experience of long format at big competitions and the most experienced of those would be triple CCI5* winner, Hazel Shannon.

Hazel won the Marsh Carney Saddlery CCN80-L Section A on the four-year-old Willingapark Chilli, by the Badminton winner Chilli Morning and out of the 5* mare CP Issey Miyake, who has stepped up a level from when we last saw him winning the EvA65 at Sydney Eventing Autumn Classic at his first ever competition.

Hazel also won two of the non-long format classes – the Bundella Station CCN3*-S on Willingapark Chelsea and the Boonona Design CCI4*-S riding her old friend and 5* winner, Willingapark Clifford

Only one competitor completed the Bundella Station CCN3*-L with Tiani Stewart riding Jeblues taking the win. Only two competitors started in the class, with the recent Adelaide Equestrian Festival probably impacting numbers here, but the AIRR Members CCI2*-L and the Quirindi Plumbing CCN1*-L classes were more populated

Olivia Barton, who recently started at her first 5* in Adelaide, has a team of lovely horses including the seven-year-old chestnut gelding APH Sebastian, winner of the CCI2*-L here. Keeping it in the family, Olivia’s mum Carlene, who is responsible for breeding many of Olivia’s equine stars, won the Marsh Carney Saddlery CCN60-L Section A while Junior rider Sienna Robinson won the CCN60-L B on board GT Fredistar

Deon Stokes, a rider known for double disciplines – dressage and eventing – did another double this weekend, winning the CCN1*-L and CCN95-L, both sponsored by Quirindi Plumbing

Deon won the 1* on Wimborne Confederate, another Wimborne horse that has had a lot of success at EvA95 level and stepped up to 1* for the first time this week, and the 95 on Diamond B Baton Rouge.

And last, but not least, the final win goes to Jade Findlay riding Stoneylea Windsong in the Marsh Carney Saddlery CCN80-L Section B
