Sam Lyle and BF Valour produced the second fastest cross country ride of the CCN4* class at the REC Equine Specialists Sydney Eventing Summer Classic today to take the win.
No-one made the optimum cross country time of 6:15 but Sam and the 11-year-old warmblood gelding made it round in 6:41 to add 13.6 time faults and finish in the lead on 47.80. One of the last riders to go in this class, the overnight leader Sam Fasher on Sulitanos, was having a good ride around the course without any jumping penalties when he held his hand up at Fence 17 and opted to walk home.
Emma Mason and Warrego Marco Polo looked impressive through the first water complex, where the supporters and helpers allowed at the event had gathered to watch in the shade of the trees. It was a busy part of the track with jumps into and in the water followed by a skinny and then a canter around the edge of the water to a corner, but all of the combinations made it through.

Emma added 14.4 time penalties but, like Sam Lyle, her clear show jumping round and good cross country time moved her into second place on a finishing score of 51.20
Heath Ryan and Bronze Boy R produced the fastest ride of the day and they finished in third, where they had started after the dressage.
