The cross country course at Willinga - we talk to Jarryd Stanley and Hayley Robl
The Willinga Park Test Event cross country day went without a hitch, with Jade Findlay piloting three horses around the brand new CCN2* track designed by Jarryd Stanley for first and second places
“My fitness was certainly tested today” admitted Jade after riding the three horses in hot and humid coastal conditions
“And the terrain certainly influenced the fences, which were beautifully built and some placed on technical lines that really made you think about how you were going to ride them”
Jade was not the fastest on course – that honour went to the young rider Hayley Robl on the bay thoroughbred gelding Lucky Decision, who added just 2.8 time penalties – but Jade’s strong start in the dressage and clear show jumping round on Saturday gave her the win on board the German bred ‘opiniated’ mare, PIKS Dancing Queen with 8.8 time penalties on cross country
Their finishing score of 39.30 put PIK Dancing Queen ahead of her stable mate Wasabi 1 in second place on 43.80 while Hayley and Lucky Decision took third place on 44.30
It is of course an honour to win the inaugural eventing competition at Willinga Park, especially after its long anticipated introduction at Terry Snow’s outstanding property at Bawley Point in NSW, but the main aim of this competition was as a ‘dry run’ for the big event to be held here from 23rd – 24th April
We caught up with Sophie Evans, Event Director of Eventing at Willinga Park, at the end of the Test Event to find out how it had all gone and the exciting things coming up in April
