Riders travel from all around Australia to compete at the Sydney International 3 Day Event but there are not many who come from Tasmania. But when Georgia McGrath visited the event last year she made it her aim to compete at the iconic Sydney International Equestrian Centre, home of the Sydney 2000 Olympics, in 2017
This is no easy feat as Georgia is based in southern Tasmania so the trip to Sydney is a major effort, especially for a 17 year old amateur rider. But Georgia and her support crew from Tasmania were undaunted and they have spent the past 10 days making their way from Tasmania to Sydney, a journey of over 35 hours travelling time with her two horses.
The homebred Maxfield’s Warlock, a 12 year old 14.1h Arabian X gelding (‘a bit different to your usual eventers’) will be competing in the CIC1* while Maxwell’s Martini is competing in the EvA105
The final stop before actually reaching the event was with Peter Gillis in the NSW Southern Highlands for some last minute preparations. Peter has been coaching Georgia at clinics in Tasmania and is of course married to our own Alison Duthie who will be providing a full report from Sydney International 3 Day Event next week
Alison had a chat to Georgia about how things had gone on the long journey so far
