The Toowoomba Showgrounds has been selected to host the equestrian events during the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games.

The 100-day review of Brisbane 2032 Olympic stadium options conducted by the Games Independent Infrastructure Coordination Authority (GIICA) delivered its findings to the Queensland Government on 8th March 2025 and today its recommendations were made public.

The inner-city Victoria Park, originally proposed as the venue for the cross country phase of the eventing at Brisbane 2032, has been recommended as the preferred location for the Main Stadium, providing a capacity of approximately 60,000 seats, along with recommendations for regional development.

One of these is that ‘the upgrade to the Toowoomba Showgrounds proceeds to enable the venue to host Games equestrian disciplines.’

The Toowoomba Royal Showgrounds was one of several equestrian-based submissions to the GIICA, including Morgan Park, the Gold Coast Turf Club, and is now be the preferred option as the Brisbane 2032 Equestrian Venue. Toowoomba is located approximately two hours west of Brisbane and already hosts eventing classes at international level, along with other equestrian events.

“We are absolutely thrilled to share that the Toowoomba Royal Showgrounds has been officially selected as the home of the equestrian events for the 2032 Brisbane Olympics!” say officials from Toowoomba Royal Showgrounds on their Facebook page.

“The 2032 Olympics & Paralympics will bring far-reaching benefits to our region, from increased visibility and tourism to economic growth and community development. The infrastructure and enhancements coming to our grounds will leave a lasting legacy, ensuring future generations benefit from this incredible milestone”

Toowoomba is also the birthplace of Australia’s equestrian Olympic medallist, Chris Burton, who has recently returned to live in Australia. The Paris 2024 individual silver medallist attended the breakfast launch of the Toowoomba Olympic bid, and it looks as if he may be heading home for another chance at an Olympic medal in 2032.
