Tim and Jonelle Price and the New Zealand Eventing team have been nominated for the prestigious Halberg Awards New Zealand
Named after Olympic champion Sir Murray Halberg ONZ, MBE the ISPS Handa Halberg Awards is New Zealand’s event to honour and celebrate New Zealand sporting excellence.
The Awards are also the major fundraising event for Sir Murray's charity - the Halberg Foundation - which aims to enhance the lives of physically disabled New Zealanders by enabling them to participate in sport and recreation.
76 nominations have been submitted from National Sports Organisations and an independent Nominations Board for the 60th ISPS Handa Halberg Awards, with winners announced at the Awards evening in Auckland on Wednesday 15th February 2023
The nominations come from 30 sporting codes for achievements within the last 12 months (1st December 2021 - 30 November 2022) and include World Number One and Number Two evening riders, Tim and Jonelle Price and the bronze medal-winning New Zealand team
Tim Price finished an exceptional year of competition as the FEI World Number One ranked eventing rider after a year that included a an individual and team bronze medal winning performance at the World Eventing Championships in Pratoni de Vivaro, Italy in September, a win in the CCI5* at Maryland, USA and a win in the CCIO4*-L at Boekelo (NED). Tim is one of 22 nominations for The ISPS Handa Sportsman of the Year
His wife Jonelle, also a member of the bronze medal winning team at Pratoni 2022, finished the year as the World Number Three having also taken one of the prestigious CCI5* titles for 2022 at Les Etoiles de Pau in October. Jonelle is one of 16 nominations for the High Performance Sport New Zealand Sportswoman of the Year
The ISPS Handa Team of the Year has six nominations including the World Championship bronze medal winning team of Tim and Jonelle Price, Monica Spencer and Clarke Johnstone
Jonelle was also a member of the New Zealand bronze medal winning Olympic team at London 2012, also nominated for a Halberg Award along with Andrew Nicholson, a finalist in 2013
