Georgie Birrell and Marlborough View - watch their full XC ride here
Standing at 17.2h the part warmblood, part thoroughbred, part Clydesdale chestnut gelding Marlborough View was not only the biggest horse competing at the Mitsubishi Motors Australian International 3 Day Event, but maybe also the one with the biggest heart
Georgie Birrell returned to Adelaide 10 years after she last competed here with the aim of just completing on the nine-year-old Marlborough View. They picked up 20 penalties on cross country but that didn’t faze Georgie at all, who simply enjoyed her run around the CCI3*-L cross country course and on the final day they added just four penalties in the show jumping
The last time we talked to Georgie, she was winning prizes on board the very laid back off the track thoroughbred Regent’s Point (Georgie names her horses after Monopoly board places) and it seems that Marlborough View has the same kind, gentle nature
“He’s an inspiration” says Georgie, who may not have gone home a winner but was certainly one of the happiest riders in Adelaide as she told us more about her big chestnut
