Lizzie Green and the New Zealand Young Rider team at Melbourne International 3 Day Event 2022
Experienced Kiwi rider Lizzie Green taken on the role of New Zealand based high performance eventing manager
Lizzie Green has been an eventing specialist coach in the New Zealand high performance programme for five years and was the Chef d’Equipe for the winning Oceania Young Rider team at Melbourne International 3 Day Event last June
Lizzie has ridden for New Zealand at both Young Rider and Senior level and is still competing with some talented up and coming horses recently named in the New Zealand squad for the Oceania Championships in 2023
Taking over the role vacated by Penny Pearce, who recently became the dressage high performance manager, the mum of two is looking forward to the challenge and using her own experience, on and off the horse, to help the next generation of Kiwi eventers
“I am really passionate about developing the next generation of Kiwi eventers, not only as athletes but also personally and for future leadership positions” Lizzie told ESNZ
“Through my involvement over the past few years I the programme, working alongside Penny in a more development space, I felt equipped to take on a bigger role, and here we are.”
The programme is in a rebuilding phase, says Jock Paget, ESNZ general manager of high performance.
“This is a great appointment for the New Zealand based high performance programme” says Jock.
“We have had five championship riders head to the Northern Hemisphere over the last cycle, and while support is still required in the high performance squads, there is a focus on the development space to support our athletes as we build towards the Los Angeles and Brisbane Olympic Games.”
