More Australian eventing disruptions

With another wave of wet weather hitting Australia in the past week, and some more to come, Australian eventing, particularly on the east coast, is dealing with the ramifications

The postponed Steelworks Construction Queensland International 3 Day Event that finally took place from 20th – 23rd October in Tamborine, Queensland, just managed to get all competitors in the international classes from CCI2*-L to CCI4*-L through the three phases, with Sophie Fox riding Mr Pig taking the CCI4*-L class (more to come in our full wrap up soon) but cross country for the national classes had to be cancelled on Sunday due to the heavy overnight rain

On the other side of the country, the Swan River Moto Trek Capel International, where the CCI4*-S was won by Sonja Johnson, also succeeded in running international classes from CCI2* to 4*, but events in NSW are once again now bearing the brunt of the weather

Albury Wodonga International (November 4th – 6th) and Berrima Horse Trials (12th & 13th November), both in NSW, have now cancelled due to ground conditions caused by the ongoing rain.

“We're very sad to advise you that our horse trials scheduled for November 4 - 6 won't be going ahead” say the Albury event organisers on social media

“You'll not be surprised to hear it's another victim of the continuing rain. The committee inspected the cross country course today in the hope that some sort of event could be run, but unfortunately it is just too wet and won't dry out in time. Parking and camping are also a huge problem. Sorry for the disappointment and we hope that 2023 is a better year for competition”

Equestriad and Willinga Park were two more events cancelled in NSW in September but there is hope that Quirindi Eventing, whose event in August had to be abandoned, will take place on 19th and 20th November and Wallaby Hill International is also on track to run short format classes from CCN1* to CCI4*-S (but not the CCI4*-L) from 2nd – 4th December

Forget "Dry July" -we’re keeping everything crossed for a future ‘dry any month’ in Australia!
