Finale of the CCI1 Star at Puhinui

      Vicky Browne-Cole and Eli

Vicky Browne-Cole could not help but shed a few tears as she talked to us about her win in the DEVI Heating Systems CCI1* Junior at Puhinui International Horse Trials.  The 17 year old had not had the best preparation for this event and was not expecting the win but she was over the moon with the performance of her eight year old gelding Eli and very grateful to her mum who is ‘not really horsey’ for all of her support and ‘feeding me’

Vicky did indeed have one rail (as can be seen in our little snippet of video from the end of her round below) but she still maintained her lead ahead of local rider Beth Wilson, who has recently spent time with Tim and Jonelle Price in England, on Alto et Audax.

Beth finished strongly with a clear round, one of only two in the class along with Samuel Amon riding Trojan Warrior who moved up to fourth place after leaving all the poles up while Sophie Alexander and World Famous finished in third

      Andy Daines and Giocattolo

Clear rounds were also scarce in the Veterinary Associates CCI1*but a clear round from Andy Daines on the grey gelding Giocattolo moved him up from second place when Angela Lloyd’s Lyrical, the overnight leader, took two rails dropping them to fifth place. Andy and Giocattolo recently finished second in the CIC1* at Rotorua but they went one better here after a consistent performance; fourth after the dressage, second after the cross country and a strong finish with a clear round

Sam Felton riding Nochraha also jumped clear – this lovely looking grey horse may be part Connemara but he covered the ground well on the cross country and picked his feet up over the coloured poles to move up from ninth place after the dressage, giving Sam another second place for the event

Donna Edwards-Smith on DSE Cluny and Brett Jury on Bates Our Entourage, another two riders who had a busy few days with multiple rides picked up four faults apiece for third and fourth places
