More eventing at Horse of the Year NZ 2025

Shane Rose rides Virgil on cross country at Versailles during the eventing at Paris 2024 Olympic Games | An Eventful Life
Shane Rose and Virgil won the CCI4* at HOY NZ 2024, their last international run before Paris 2024

The Defender Horse of the Year Show New Zealand Eventing schedule includes a new class for 2025 with a CCI2*-S being run as part of the event.

Held at the Tōmoana Showgrounds, Hastings, Hawke’s Bay on New Zealand’s North Island, the Show will run from 4th – 9th March 2025 with classes across the equestrian disciplines. The eventing classes are usually held at CCI4*-S and CCI3*-S levels, but this year will also include CCI2*-S.

In 2024 HOY NZ played an important role in the lead-up to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, with the event hosting the Oceania Championships and Australia’s Shane Rose winning the CCI4*-S on board Virgil.

At the time Shane told us it would be his last major run before the Games on Virgil, but little did he know that shortly afterwards he would suffer a riding accident that would nearly put him out of Paris 2024 altogether. In a remarkable turnaround however, Shane overcame the odds to be part of the Australian Olympic team that competed at Versailles.

The 2025 HOY NZ eventing classes will take place from Friday 7th – Sunday 9th with dressage on Friday, showjumping on Saturday and cross country around the Chris Ross designed track on Sunday.
