Stuart Tinney and Queen Mary on their way to a win at SIEC
Stuart won the CCI3* on the eight year old German bred mare Queen Mary (Q), owned by Peter O’Connell and Kathy Ward, that was brought to Australia by Tinney Eventing in 2013.
Fourth after the dressage Stuart and Q put in the third fastest cross country round on the Mike Etherington-Smith course with 13.6 time penalties and then backed it up with a clear round in the show jumping to win on a score of 50.60.
The pair recently also won the CNC3* at Sydney @ SIEC Spring MidWeek competition and finished third in the CCI3* at Lynton Horse Trials in Goulburn in October.
Western Australia’s Shenae Lowings, who is definitely one of Australia’s rising young stars, led the dressage at Wallaby Hill on Ballyhoo and jumped a blistering cross country round to be the only rider to make the time but 16 penalties in the show jumping dropped them into second place
Shenae has told us before that this is Ballyhoo’s weakness but his cross country is so fantastic that she can deal with it – imagine if they got the third phase together! Soigne Jackson also had a great cross country ride on Warrego Collateral Damage with just 6.4 time penalties to move them into third place overall from ninth after the dressage
Bols Armstrong won the CCI2* on Quaprice and the evergreen Heath Ryan won the CCI1* on Wimbourne Constable while Jess Rae and Sappho Ransan-Elliott took out the EvA105 classes
Chris Burton, visiting from the UK, put in a couple of masterclass performances on Alex Townsend’s WHF Lyrical and WHF Labyrinth to win two of the three divisions of the EvA95 (luckily he was too old for the Junior class which was won by Matilda Seppelt!)
