As many readers will know, we regularly catch up with Tinney Eventing for a quick update on what’s happening in their world of eventing.
With Stuart’s focus now very much on course design and Gemma busy with some lovely young horses at lower levels, they do still have one horse competing at the very top of the sport in Be My Daisy, and Stuart and Karen have really been enjoying playing ‘owner’ with Shane Rose in the saddle.
Last weekend Be My Daisy added another top placing to her resume, finishing second to Shane’s Easy Turn in the CCI4*-S at Canberra International Horse Trials but ‘now the time has come to put her up for sale’ says Karen.
Now Be My Daisy could be your Daisy soon!
Foaled in 2011, the Hanoverian mare Be My Daisy (Sire: Barclay/Dam: St Pr Hauptstutbuch Desiree by Davignon 1) was bought by Stuart and Karen from Germany in late 2017 as a 1.20m showjumper.
She then began her eventing career in Australia in 2018, quickly rising through the grades to international level, winning a CCN3*, a CCI3*-L and taking second in a CCI3*-S with Stuart in the saddle.
In 2020, as Stuart focussed on the coming Olympic Games, Gemma took over the ride, placing fourth in a CCI3*-S before Covid-19 got its grips on Australia and, although Covid continued to take its toll on most events, Gemma and Daisy still claimed some placings at 3* and 4* levels at the events that did run.
In 2022, Stuart made the decision to focus on other areas of his eventing career and downsize the team of top-level horses, so his Olympic teammate Shane Rose was given the ride. Be My Daisy proved to be the perfect potential back-up horse for Shane leading into the World Championships at Pratoni, winning a CCI4*-L, a CCI4*-S and taking second in another CCI4*-L in 2022.
Another early season CCI4*-S win followed in 2023 before Be My Daisy finished fourth at her first CCI5*-L at the Adelaide Equestrian Festival in April 2023.
“She’s a lovely horse, I have always had a soft spot for her, the stamp of a ‘good mare’” says Karen “Daisy is tough, loving and has just always given her all when you need it. Lovely to have around, easy, plus fits in wherever she goes.
I certainly have loved sitting on her in the past, she is totally ready for any rider that wants to be competitive and have a beautifully moving, sound horse. We have a reasonable price on her as we really want to see her out competing with her next rider soon.”
Will Daisy stay in Australia? Will she head back overseas? Wherever she goes, she’ll be an asset to some lucky person’s stable.
