Usman Khan and Kasheer in the 4* dressage at Sydney International 3 Day Event
We’re very sad to hear of the passing of Usman Khan’s horse Kasheer at Naracoorte Horse Trials, where they were competing in the CCI4*-S last weekend.
Kasheer died of a proximal cervical fracture following a rotational fall at the event in South Australia and his rider, Usman Khan, was taken to hospital but discharged on Monday night.
Usman, who rides for Pakistan but is based in Victoria, Australia, was the first rider to qualify a place for his country in eventing at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games but his qualified horse Azad Kashmir died after suffering an aortic aneurysm at home. In 2020 Usman took up the ride on Kasheer, a horse previously ridden by Andrew Cooper and known as Riverbreeze
Andrew and Riverbreeze, then owned by Beth Collins, won the CCI4*-S at the Australian International 3 Day Event in 2019
Usman was aiming to qualify for the postponed Tokyo 2020 and recently completed at the Sydney International Three Day Event
It was the second horse fatality in Australia on the same day with another incident at Tamborine ODE
