We are truly in the eventing season now. Every week someone is away and competing somewhere, that means a little more work for home stayers, but we all take turns and we have a good team, so it’s all working well.

Me, Yoshi and Dirk went to Krueth to compete in CIC* and CIC2* star the other day. It took us about seven hours driving down to the South West, close to the border of Czech Republic.

Krueth itself is a very small place. The actual fact is that the entrance of the competition venue is the start of the town and the town ends where the venue ends! But it has an amazing looking hotel and a very nice restaurant which are often used for international conferences.

A week before, I ran my mare, Printemps in the national novice class as a warm up event. This was the first event since she’s back from her injury and she was a bit fresh and rather wild in all three phases, so I was a little worried how she was going to be at Krueth.

Matching the colours of the fences and the hotel - nice touch!

She turned out to be a bit fresh again, but at least this time she was more controllable! We pulled off a fairly nice dressage test, clear cross country with some time and had one down in showjumping, finishing 23rd out of 53. Apparently we would have been placed if we had chased the time in the cross country, so I was pretty happy with how she had gone throughout the weekend.

Printemps pulled up sound after the event and we are now back at home and busy trotting and cantering up ‘the hill’ to get fit for the CCI event in Holland in a week. This event is the part of our Japanese team selection event for Asian games, so fingers crossed for our success!
