Adelaide! It's all over... but to say the least I think it went very successfully and we came home with a lot more blue ribbons than expected.
Dressage, the main worry and source of the constant training went very well, according to mum and dad it was the best test I've ridden with an equal 31st out of 47 I was still happy being at Adelaide and all, then I realized I was just 13 penalties off Shane, the leader! The cross country and show jumping was sure going to sort some people out with scores that close.
Cross country day! It was a big, difficult & long track (9 minutes and 25 seconds) in the middle of the beautiful Adelaide park. Now I'm not normally a nervous person but I now understand the sick feeling you get in your stomach just before a big event. Putting that aside King & I still managed to pull off the cross country with not even one cut or scrap (and no misses!) just 5.6 time penalties. All the fitness paid off though, with the both of us coming in hardly puffed and moving up to 26th place
Adelaide didn't fail to impress with the show jumping either with a very decent track in the main arena. Again the nervous feeling, but King and I pulling off a beautiful round he just thought it was over a bit too soon and tapping the back rail of the last fence with his back legs. With that we still managed to move up to 18th overall which King got lots of licorice for
In the young rider class I finished 6th and our NSW team, which was Hannah Walls, Kirby Delamont, Andrew Cooper and I came first overall and we got rugs and huge blue ribbons. I was super happy until dad stole my thunder by having a clear round in 4th position in the 4* and ended up winning the class! Haha:)
Our luck did seem to run out on the way home though with our first pit stop Gemma getting out of the truck and saying 'oh look a black cat'. A couple of hours later in the middle of nowhere some belt thing in the truck broke and our battery ran flat! With a mechanic having to drive all the way from adelaide (a good 4 hours away) we set up camp for the night as we ended up being there for 7 hours ( thank god for the generator!) since seven in the morning it was non-stop driving until.... our tyre almost gave way. Luckily our mood wasn't dampened as we were surrounded by ribbons and a huge novelty cheque, with that fixed and the horses refreshed we set off again and are now almost home, can't wait for school in the morning .....
