There is always a child to feed ...
I’ve had a busy month. But I think I say that every time? Anyway – it WAS very busy a few weeks ago, as we held a CIC event at Equestrian Park. I must be getting older as it has taken me a while to recover.
I’d given my blog some thought, but I can’t remember what I was going to write – but I seem to remember thinking it was awesome, so I am rather bummed!
It might have been about the fact that riding and being on the organising committee was kind of hectic, but really – I’ve only got one horse, not like Christine (Bates) or Niki (Rose) so maybe I should quit complaining. However I’ve got three kids, who I’d decided are a little more time consuming than three horses – I have to make breakfasts, get them dressed, take to school, make lunches, make their beds, make dinners, put their PJs on, brush their teeth etc etc etc, but in fact they’re sounding very similar – except kids complain more!
Or it could have been about the dressage test I rode at Canberra that felt absolutely dreadful – so much so that, when the judge and penciller (who both have a wicked sense of humour!) presented me with my test when they arrived back at the tent, I felt it was a pretty accurate account!
mmm - I do like judges with a sense of humour
Maybe it was going to be about the fact that walking the show jumping course is a great idea if you want to be able to get around without shouting “#$%^ which way do I turn now?” (Luckily good luck rather than management prevailed and I only had one rail – which was totally my fault)
Or was it about an email I got asking for changes at the last minute from a certain rider who entertains us all with his views on eventing, coupled with “you’re the best event secretary EVER” – I wonder if he uses that on all of them? And it wasn’t just one email from him but several – I think he might need to take a course on making up his mind!
I get ready to go cross country at Canberra - my last event for five weeks!
These last few months have had an event every fortnight, so to have a gap of 5 weeks is actually quite odd. I feel I’ve lost momentum and the desire to leap out of bed at 5.30! So I’ve decided that I’d really like the eventing calendar to have an event every three weeks. This would help me maintain my enthusiasm but also allow me to keep on top of the washing pile. Berrima is on in a few weeks (I’d better enter!) so I’ve got to get back into the swing of it soon.
This year, I’ve realised that going to Adelaide would be awesome and I’m really regretting not getting organised. I guess I’ll just have to start getting my you-know-what sorted out and start saving and make it happen next year. So if you’re heading over, have fun!
I’ve just re read this and I see I’ve used an exclamation mark far too often – I really need to work on that for the next time. I promise.
Until then, have fun out there. Enjoy yourselves but be careful – snakes are everywhere – I had a run in with one the other day – it seems that it wasn’t only my lead rope curled up by the gate. Next time I’ll hang it up not leave it on the ground (spot the person who grew up somewhere where water was never in short supply, a hot summers day was when the temperature reached 25C and there were NO SNAKES!)
