It is now 3 weeks since the accident and I am out of hospital thank goodness. My amazing mum has, with the help of some incredible friends, organised all of the ewes ready for lambing and then ducked up and grabbed me. The trip home was better than I hoped and didn’t have me crawling to the pain medication box.
Home (Parkiarrup near Albany, WA) has greened up but we are desperate for a really soaking rain. Some dams at the other farm are dry and one at home which I can't remember being dry before is cattle only. The horses that are still at home have all improved. Nikki Brooks' wonderful Parkiarrup Illicit Liaison (Ben) is staying at his second home with Nikki at Brookleigh Equestrian Centre in the care of Nat Hibbert and Sharon Jarvis while Belfast Mojito (Mojo) is currently at home with his mum Rebecca Bell. Edward is up with Jessica Manson. My amazing working pupil, Ben Leahy, who was left to run the farm while dad and I were both in hospital has continued his good work. Ben boy is off to Moora CNC with 4 horses this weekend and then staying up for a Wayne Roycroft clinic (very jealous!) Not sure how we will cope with out him for a week! I think Ben finds the hardest thing about competing with me not there is the interrogation on how it went while I am stuck at home. I'm bored so I expect a blow by blow description!
On Monday I was supposed to be speaking at a fund raiser for M’Liss Henry and her RDA group. M’Liss is an amazing person. She has done things like training elephants in Nepal and is such a giver to the sport in all its forms. One of the auction items is a signed copy of An Eventful Life, however as I am really better off not travelling to Perth good old Sharon Jarvis has stepped into the breach as the guest speaker for me. I suspect she will extract it from my hide at a later date. The following weekend our stud sheep classer, Anthony Archer, will be in town to go through some rams for us. I of course, am spitting chips as I am allowed NOWHERE near the yards. All my fun seems to be currently banned. Not a happy camper. Anyway on the 17th of this month I get to go back to see my surgeon and then hopefully I can go from 2 crutches to 1. At least then I can at try to help mum with the cooking. I am however quite sure vacuuming will still be beyond me! So that is how it all is.
Dad is improving after his stroke. Poor mum, not one but two invalids in the house. I always knew she was amazing but now we know she really is super mum!
Cheers Sonja
