January has been good to us

2015 has already been busy but successful so far. Early January, we welcomed back Jade, our Kiwi wonder groom from her Christmas holiday. All the horses were happy to see her (until she took to them with the mane pulling comb....)

Since November, Jade and I have been madly organising kids’ riding camps. We held three camps and each camp went for three days and two nights. We had 21 kids aged from 6 to 16 stay with us over a week and we had lots of fun.

It was the first time we had done anything like this and I would say it was a success. We already have kids booked in for our April camp so the kids must have enjoyed it as much as we did!

We kept them busy with dressage, show jumping, cross country, games, amazing race, pairs and teams of 4, trail ride, theory, plaiting and presentation sessions and a trip to the Howlong pool.

Thanks to all the kids and ponies for making camp run so smoothly, we look forward to seeing you all again soon! Another thank you to Shannon Kelly and Katt McKinnon for jumping on board and helping us run sessions, organising kids and doing anything and everything asked, we couldn’t have done it without you.

Thank you too to my sponsors – Pryde’s EasiFeed and Black Horse Clothing and also Horseland Albury for supplying us with goodies and special prizes for each camp goer. All the kids were so stoked to receive an awesome goodie bag full of cool things.

I now have no voice left but it was so worth it!

After completing a two and a half day course, Jade and I are now fully licenced truckies! Now Mum can come to events as horse owner and supporter, she can enjoy her time rather than drive all through the night to get us there. We have been too busy to take the truck for a spin but we will be driving to Wallaby Hill Horse Trials by ourselves so we better fit some practice driving time in our busy schedule

I have already achieved one of my 2015 goals - I am now a NCAS Level 1 coach. It has been a slow and very long process trying to find the time to get everything signed off but it’s finally done

Last but not least I need to introduce you all to Hawk Noir PSH (Rabbit) and Black Hawk II (Nugget) owned by Black Hawk Farm in New Zealand. My business, Teegan Ashby Equestrian has gone into partnership with Black Hawk Farm to bring the finest quality event horses into Australia. Rabbit and Nugget have both settled in very well and I am looking forward to getting them out and about. I am so grateful to Carolyn Jolley for this opportunity to work with her and her fantastic horses.

Coming up for us…

This weekend my jumping coach is in Albury and I have four lessons booked in on Saturday for Boris, Secrets, Rabbit and Nugget. Then I am off to Mansfield to teach at Pony Club on Sunday.

The following weekend, the 7th and 8th February, we are off to our first event of the season. YAY! I am so excited to get back out on the cross country course. I will have Storm, Rabbit and Nugget competing at the beautiful Wallaby Hill Farm.

On the 15th I am teaching at Howlong Pony Club before we head of to Sydney for a week. From Monday the 16th to Wednesday the 18th, we have our first squad school for the year. Then on Thursday the 19th is Sydney Midweek CNC where Boris and Secret will be doing a combined training and Rabbit and Nugget will be doing the proper one day event. Friday will be a well needed rest day and Saturday and Sunday sees another CNC. This time Secrets will do a full event, Boris will sit this one out and Rabbit and Nugget will have another start.

Hopefully next blog I will have some good results to report

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and wishing you all the best for 2015.

Happy riding!
