On the road again …

Ronny and I schooling at 'home'

Hi everyone,

Sorry I've been a bit slack with the blogging!

Unfortunately I didn't get to Kentucky to see Rolex, however I managed to see a bit online, good on Nicholson. I believe he is one of the few horsemen we have in the sport. He is so relaxed and I think his horses get that vibe and that's why they perform so well. It’s a bugger he just missed out in the Grand Slam at Badminton!

Anyway since my last blog I have packed a lot of stuff as Clayton has moved from Oak Lane Farm and now we are staying with some friends of his from England (Richard and Daisy Trayford), who also made the move over here early this year. So we are currently living out of bags and boxes, a bit like gypsies! So it has been rather challenging - especially trying to pack horses to go off to events. Clayton will move to his own farm early next month (it is really nice), but must say I’m glad I don't have to do another move!

   Ronny and I doing poles

Clayton has been flat out with his Canadian coaching, so when he is here it is very full on and you try to make the most of it by always doing poles and riding with him. Clayton focuses a lot on getting the horse supple and adjustable by doing a lot of pole and grid work. This has made me realise how we all need to jump less – it’s more poles and grids we need to do! While Clayton is away I've been able to ride everyday with the help from Lisa his yard manager, she is really good, well you would have to be after spending eight years with him.

Riding Catch when we went to Longwood cross country schooling

We've been back to Longwood for some cross country schooling and to give the horses a gallop on superb ground. The facilities their are amazing, it's provides everything you want and need without going miles around a cross country course.

Clayton's mum Pauline was out for a few weeks, to help pack up the place and take some time off work from the saddlery back in Perth. It was good to have here there as she is really good fun!

Ronny doing changes - did I point out he is pretty big, close to 18hh!

At the moment I'm taking care of things here and riding the horses that are left behind while Clayton and Lisa are at Jersey Fresh an event near New York with a South African girl who keeps her horse here with them.

I think that is everything for now, feel free to send me an email at [email protected]

I look forward to catching up with everyone next month.

Cheers Wendy
