Burghley CCI4* proved to be a happy hunting ground for Team rider Clayton Fredericks this past weekend. On the relatively new ride of Be My Guest, Clayton finished on his dressage score of 45.8 which saw him move from 9th to finish 3rd on the final day. In a feild of 77 starters, including 5 time winner William Fox Pitt and defending champion Oli Townend, the competition was going to be tough. But with a competitive dressage, double clear XC and one of the few clear showjumping rounds Clayton's 3rd place is his best ever result at the prestigious 4* event. UK based New Zealand rider Caroline Powell and the ever green 17yo Lenamore took the title, with William Fox Pitt and Seacookie in 2nd. Be My Guest is a 12year old mare and Burghley is just their 6th competiton together, with their last outing an Open Novice class at Wilton. “If you had told me I would be here at all let alone in third when I was sitting on my backside on the bank at Aachen [after a fall from her] I most certainly wouldn’t have believed you,” said Clayton. "I am absolutely over the moon!" Team Fredericks is on the road again on their way to Blenheim Palace International this weekend. Clayton is contesting the CCI3* on Brookleigh and Mr Miller 2, with Lucinda on Prada. Brookleigh has a local connection- being owned by Nikki Brooks of Brookleigh Estate, WA, who has travelled to watch her horse run. Nikki is also a great supporter of Sonja Johnson and owns her four star horse Parkiarrup Illicit Liaison (Ben). Best of luck!
