I grew up just outside of Bath in a small country village where, as part of a sporty family with two brothers who play rugby professionally, the weekends were never easy for my devoted mum.
Riding from a young age on the weekends for fun developed into something slightly more serious and I competed up to Intermediate level. I kept my horse with Harry Meade for about six years and during that time found that I loved being in a team atmosphere, involved in the sport and the hype involved around the major events.
After finishing my A-Levels I became a working pupil for Sam Griffiths. University was never something that overly interested me so I was happy to take a gap year instead of going straight to Uni and, as it was the year of the London Olympics, I was keen to go to a yard and learn about everything that went into preparing for the Olympics.
Sam's yard was close to home and this seemed like a good first move into working on an event yard so I spent the first year as a working pupil learning from the then head girl and I was then lucky enough to be offered the job as head girl. I took over in the quieter winter months, which allowed me to find my feet and, with a huge amount of support from Sam and Lucy over the past three years, I'm now heading into my fourth season working for them
As much as I love grooming I do also really enjoy riding as well. The horse I’d had during my teenage years that took me up to Intermediate level unfortunately came to the end of his completion career around the time I moved to Sam's but I now have another horse, Cher, who I enjoy riding and competing when time permits. There are plenty of comical stories about our riding career together, including having a summer’s roll in the Dumas water jump during a cross country schooling session!!
I've been incredibly lucky so far with my experiences. Sam has a yard full of lovely horses that are all so nice to deal with and be around. Then there was the Badminton 2014 ... wow!! Also Burghley, the World Equestrian Games and then my first trip to Boekelo in 2014 which was memorable to say the least!!
Now we’re aiming for Rio and you can follow my adventures in this blog
