Megan Jones, who lives in the small town of Hahndorf, just outside Adelaide, is one of Australia’s most respected and admired event riders.
She began riding at age five and steadily made her way up the Pony Club ladder until she found official eventing and since then she has continued to achieve numerous wins and accolades.
In 2005, riding Kirby Park Irish Jester, Megan clocked up two major wins. The first was at the Melbourne CCI3* and then later in the year at the Adelaide CCI4*. Those performances helped her become part of the Australian team for the 2006 World Equestrian Games in Aachen, Germany where the team collected a bronze medal and Megan finished 16th individually. The pair were also part of the silver medal winning team at the Beijing Olympics two years later in 2008.
In 2010 Megan and Jester were once again called upon to represent their country at the World Equestrian Games, this time held in Kentucky. Sadly, due to travel arrangements which didn’t suit him, Jester suffered from travel sickness en route to Kentucky and wasn’t able to compete.
Thanks to lots of care and attention Jester returned to competition in the latter half of 2011 and is still very much a crowd favorite today.
Megan and Kirby Park Allofasudden have been named on the 2012 Eventing A squad and will be working towards Olympic selection. Their year got off to a good start when they won the CIC3* at Tonimbuk (Jester finished second) and they will be hoping to repeat that performance in the months to come.
The other thing on Megan’s mind at the moment is the planning of her wedding to James Logan early next year. Never one to miss out on an opportunity Megan is having an area on the property leveled and grassed which will not only provide a stunning venue for the wedding but will transform into a spacious showjumping arena once the wedding is over.
We look forward to bringing you Megan’s blogs on all things horses and wedding related!
