Gill Rolton previews the Australian International 3 Day Event 2012

Gill Rolton is in the box seat - from London 2012 to the Australian International 3 Day Event

Gill Rolton is not only one of Australia’s gold Olympic medallists in eventing and a top international judge but is also the Event Director for the Australian International 3 Day Event held in Adelaide.

With a history going back to the days of the Gawler Horse Trials, the event moved to the centre of Adelaide in 1997, became a Four Star event in 2002 and part of the FEI HSBC Classic Series in 2011.

Click on the icon below to hear Gill tells us more about this unique event which will see William Fox-Pitt attending as the HSBC Ambassador. Although William is not competing here this year Gill gives us a run down on who is competing and the moves afoot to bring top international riders and their horses to the Southern Hemisphere’s only Four Star in the very near future. It certainly would be great to watch the likes of William, Michael Jung and Sara Algotsson Ostholt compete on Australia turf.

As well as being a great international competition, the event that is hosted in the centre of a city offers a wide range of other entertainment. Gill tells us about the Masterclasses, celebrity course walks and the Adelaide City Council Free Friday in the Park which offers a Bubbles Bar, the Brewster Brothers band, a celebrity mechanical bull riding session, the  Double Dans Show and Twilight Showjumping. I have a feeling a few people may regret the bull ride the next day ...................

Gill Rolton talks about the Australian International 3 Day Event

One thing we didn’t get around to discussing is the Saturday night entertainment at the Southern Stars Eventer’s Party. Not surprisingly, this is always a sell-out night (at the moment they are trying to extend their licence to accommodate more than 350 as over 300 tickets have already been sold). Here everyone enjoys a two course dinner whilst watching all the cross country day action, hot off the Channel 7 cameras which will be filming that day, on the big screen. Sponsored by Clayton and Kelvin Fredericks’ company, the evening wouldn’t be complete without a top live party band which this year is Acoustic Juice (no doubt they will be joined by some special guests – no prizes for guessing who!)

The tickets for the Southern Stars Eventer’s Party are $15 for competing riders and $30 for everyone else so to ensure that you don’t miss out you can order your tickets HERE
