Waiting in the start box at Adelaide
Ben Leahy, from WA, has enjoyed an exciting year of eventing, competing both in Australia and overseas in the UK. This 20 year old keen event rider first became known in eventing circles when he was working for fellow WA rider Sonja but earlier this year he spread his wings further afield and headed off to work with Harry Meade (son of gold medal winning event rider Richard Meade). Harry is one of Britain’s leading event riders who, by the age of just 25, had completed ten CCI4* events always finishing in the top 25 and is much respected for his quiet, sympathetic approach to his job.
Ben and Le Directeur head off around the CCI2* course at Adelaide - next year they will be heading to UK
After several months in UK Ben came back with just enough time to get his own horse, Le Directeur, who he bought from Sonja, ready for Adelaide CCI2*.
We caught up with Ben to find out what he thought of his time in UK and what his plans are for next year.
