After some hectic days at Equitana Melbourne, Stuart Tinney and John Twomey spent a quieter couple of days just outside of Melbourne relaxing with their horses.
Both John and Stuart will be riding in the 4* class of the Australian International 3 Day Event in Adelaide this week. Stuart, the defending champion, is this year riding the 13 year old grey Pluto Mio (left) while John is competing on the New Zealand Warmblood cross, Highly Recommended (right).
Pluto and HR enjoyed some R&R in the paddock before the long drive to the big event. Having spent a few nights stabled in the middle of the city of Melbourne, where Equitana is held, the elegant grey and his handsome brown friend enjoyed a big roll and some real grass.
“HR is a real New Zealand horse” said John “He much prefers to be out in a paddock”
As all greys do, much to the exasperation of their riders and grooms, Pluto enjoyed the chance to have a good roll and try to emulate HR’s brown colour.
The guys gave the horses a workout on the flat on Monday then hacked them down the road. Today they are on their way to Adelaide; a 10 hour journey from Melbourne which is made much easier by the fact that they are travelling in a wonderful Wade Equine Coach (more about that in a future article)
