Sadly one of Adelaide’s local heroes, Wendy Schaeffer looks unlikely to be competing at this year’s Australian International 3 Day Event. Wendy and her bay thoroughbred mare Sun Showers are entered in the CCI 2* but Sun Showers is now looking an unlikely starter at this week's event after being 'nailbound' when last shod on Melbourne Cup Day, November 6. Despite veterinary treatment, re-shoeing and ongoing management time appears to be against them in making this year's event.
Wendy says "I'm very disappointed for all of us at Team Sunburst with Sun Showers promising so much from recent performances."
Olympic gold medallist Wendy of course hails from just outside of Adelaide so she will be putting in an appearance at her favourite ‘local’ event even if she is not able to compete. You will be able to find her at the Bonnet’s Saddlery stand most days and she will also be around and about at the event so it is a great chance for her fans and friends to catch up with her on her home turf
