Andrew Hoy to ride Algebra

“A petite horse with a very big heart and plenty of scope!” are Andrew Hoy's first words when describing the new member in his team of top event horses. Algebra, owned by Australian business people John Glenn and his wife Julia McLean – both long term supporters of Australian Eventing – has arrived at the yard of Hoy Enterprises Ltd in April 2014 with Natalie Blundell to base and train with Andrew.

“I have very much enjoyed to be able to support Natalie and Algebra in their daily training and their campaign for WEG and I am very proud of what they have achieved together – with their best performance in Europe being placed 13th at CCI4* Luhmühlen. Natalie and Algebra competed at their first 1* together in 2006 and Natalie has over the years brought him on all the way to 4* level and I believe she has done a great job”, said Andrew.

Owners John Glenn and Julia Mc Lean have supported Natalie for many years and decided to give Algebra a “second career” as schoolmaster for a young rider after stepping down from top level sport and ending his career with Natalie at the end of the 2014 season.

“We received a lot of interest and were overwhelmed to see how popular he was and how many people had enjoyed following his career – but we were not able to find the right home for him. As Andrew kept him in training for us during this period of time we discovered how well he and Algebra got on – and as Algebra still feels very fresh and enjoys his daily training we decided together with Andrew to give him one more year at the top level”, explains John Glenn.

“We are currently working on a season plan with Andrew but would like to aim him at CCI4* Luhmühlen as highlight of 2015 and will then make further decisions at the end of this season. My wife and I both love Algebra dearly – so he might return to our farm in Australia, who knows?”

Algebra is now back in full work at Somerby Stables and enjoys his work programme alongside some relaxing time in the field. “He´s had wonderful performances and he doesn´t owe anyone anything”, saiys Andrew. “We will take it step by step and see how we get on – and I am very much looking forward to spending this year with him.”
