The action will be coming from Wallaby Hill Farm this weekend
The weather gods are being unkind to eventers in Victoria again but in NSW Wallaby Hill Farm is gearing up for a good weekend of eventing
With Tonimbuk Horse Trials being cancelled and a heatwave causing the postponement of the Pakenham Horse Trials (hopefully to now be run on the weekend previously occupied by Tonimbuk on 8th & 9th March), eventing in Victoria has got off to a slow start this season.
Sadly, the weather still isn’t being kind to eventing organisers in Victoria with temperatures in the mid to high 30’s over the next few days and the organisers of the Ballarat Summer Training and Hickstead Weekend have also decided to cancel their event due to high temperatures and extreme fire danger
Saturday would have been the Training Day with well-known Victorian riders and trainers providing instruction and a Hickstead competition including a dressage test and a jumping course consisting of a combination of show jumps and cross country course would have taken place on Sunday.
Now we’ll just have to wait until May to head out to Victoria Park in Ballarat when their main event, the 2014 Friends of Ballarat Horse Trials takes place on 10th and 11th May (yes, forget the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials, Ballarat is the place to be that weekend!). It’s a great event and the facilities there, including the all weather dressage and show jumping arenas and the new cross country course designed and built by Ewan Kellet, are a big draw card. No doubt by then it will be raining. If you’re looking for some eventing action, why not take a look at our cross country videos from Friends of Ballarat 2013 here
Although Ballarat’s event has been cancelled we’ve still looking forward to catching up with eventers out and about again at the beautiful Wallaby Hill Farm in NSW where they are holding classes up to CNC 2* and Combined Training. Alison Duthie will be bringing us reports from there this weekend while over in New Zealand, Libby Law will snapping images at the Clevedon Pony Club One Day Event so our 4* members have plenty to look forward to
