The Berrima Horse Trials addiction

Angus Malcolm and Leonore Waugh (above) are two of the people who helped to get Berrima Horse Trials up and running over 22 years ago … and they are still here!

Angus and his wife Neatie run the Fitzroy Equestrian Centre in the Southern Highlands and both try to compete when time allows. Their three daughters: Emily, Jess and Ali also ride and compete and have followed their parent’s footsteps - helping out at events whenever they can.

Leonore Waugh’s parents, John and Kathy Roche, own Araluen – the venue for Berrima Horse Trials and with Leonore, a keen rider herself and Vince as a brother it was inevitable she was going to be strongly involved with the event. Leonore’s husband Anthony is often part of the ‘crash crew’ on cross country day, their son, Nick, helps with what ever needs to be done while daughter Charlotte either rides or helps out in the Araluen Café.

So as you can see Berrima is a family affair for both Angus and Leonore and to find out why they have stayed involved for all this time I caught up with them at Berrima last weekend.

"We have to keep all our helpers happy," says Leonore
