Canberra here we come

Megan Jones and Kirby Park Allofasudden are back at Canberra

Anyone who reads Kate Mckenzie’s blog knows that the Canberra Horse Trials is one of her eventing passions. Kate, who has just returned from a trip to WEG and Burghley, is on the organising committee for Canberra and when she invited us to the Australian Capital Territory to video the cross country we just couldn’t resist. It’s always exciting to film new courses and the rider list is packed with competitors from not only NSW but also lots of Victorians heading there from south of the border so we should see some very good riding

The classes run the full gamut from EvA80 to CIC3* and the top classes have decent numbers after what seems to have been a bit of a drought in higher level events recently. Stuart Tinney and Shane Rose are back in town and have horses in various classes including Stuart’s recently imported horses, Carlchen and Queen Mary in the CIC1* which looks like it will be a hotly contested class.

Megan Jones has Kirby Park Invader, Kirby Park Impress and Kirby Park Grand Impressions in the CCI2* which will keep her busy riding and keep me busy getting the names right. Megan, who has spent this week with her South Australian team at the Australian Interschool Championships in Victoria, also has Kirby Park Allofasudden back in competition which is good news; he will be starting in the CIC3*

The ‘over the border’ crew from Victoria and South Australia outnumber the NSW riders by quite a long way in the CIC3* which is interesting. Rob Palm and Will Enzinger have both been on good form in their home State and Izzy Houghton, last year’s Young Rider at the Australian International 3 Day Event is bringing Mohito for a 3* start

We’ll be reporting from the event on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th (although no doubt Deb will miss quite a few of the early riders due to the clocks going back) and filming every rider on course on Sunday. We’ll be providing the winning rider from each section with a free video so there is going to be some great footage coming up very soon afterwards!
