Dressage at Lakes and Craters

Day two of the Lakes and Craters Three Day Event saw the action kick off on the new main arena with the Star classes performing dressage against a backdrop of hundreds of cockatoos. The birds tried their best to distract the horses but our riders were too good, keeping a calm head and producing some lovely tests. As the day wore on, the sun came out and the temperature began to rise – a taste of what is to come for tomorrow’s forecast of 32 degrees for cross country day.

The newly surfaced arena provided perfect footing for the dressage and was peacefully removed from the Preliminary riders who had the use of four arenas on the oval below. The CCI1* was a very competitive class, kicking off in the morning and resulting in some very close scores. Amanda Ross and Loxley performed a very impressive test, setting the bar high to take the lead on 51.50. Cassie Lowe and Fair View Metalica sit in second, whilst third place is taken by three riders. These are Jonathan McLean on Brinkin Fitzwilliam, Robert Palm on Koko Doro and Megan Jones on Kirby Park Irish Empress.

The CCI2* class kicked off in the afternoon and, with the rise in temperature, judges chose to ditch their cars and sat on chairs outside of their cars, hoping to cool off in the growing breeze. Katie Roots and Tevalgar II set the bar high with an impressive score of 44.20, taking them into the lead ahead of tomorrow’s cross country. Rebekah McDougall and ESB Irish Patience sit in second and Naomi White and Mighty Tosca are in third.

In the CCI3*, Will Enzinger may have only had himself to compete against but he still put on a great show. He sits in first place on Ruban Son (above) with a score of 52.80 after a beautiful test and second on TS Jamaimo. Due to an overzealous truck driver at Goulburn, Jamaimo incurred a small injury so hasn’t had lot of work leading up to this event. He was quite enthusiastic, however Will kept him contained and did an admirable test given the circumstances.

Juana Andreou and Sunvalley Donnerhe (above) performed a beautiful test in the CIC3* with some fantastic movements to lead on 48.20 penalties. Makayla Wood and Just Corona sit in second place no too far behind whilst Benjamin Leahy and Le Directeur are in third. Jayne Hanson and Brookfield Sabre complete the CIC3* class which is bound to be entertaining as they tackle a very influential cross country course tomorrow.

In between the dressage tests, course designer Michael Creber explained the difficulties of designing the courses on the Camperdown venue

In the EA95 section A, Amanda Ross and MC Hammer (above) performed a lovely test, taking the lead on a score of 37.20. Cassie Lowe and Toy Story sit in second place and Will Enzinger and Safari are in third. In section B, Edith Kane and the impressive ESB Golden Zone are in first place on 34.80. While Yona Lloyd and Roscoe P Coaltrain are in sit second place and Terry Delbridge and Duddley Dolittle are in third.
